Born in Puerto Rico and later raised in Bethlehem, PA, Valeria Quiñones is now a bilingual Multi-skilled/media reporter for Northeastern PA’s “Highest Rated” local news program in the country, Newswatch 16. 

 

She has a passion for nonfiction storytelling, deep reportage, and telling the stories of underserved or underrepresented people in Pennsylvania.

 

She recently won a PAB Excellence in Broadcasting Award for her project “Navigating Inflation” that she completed in partnership with WPSU while she worked at The News Lab at Penn State.  

Last year, Valeria covered the midterm elections for the Philadelphia Inquirer and SpotlightPA, the effects of inflation on Blair County for WPSU (NPR), and the impact of SNAP and food insecurity on college students for “Centre County Report” (aired locally on PBS and streamed on CBS in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia).
